Everyone, grab your foot!!!! Take your left foot and put it on your right knee....or vice versa, it doesn't matter. The medial (inside) edge of your foot is the Spinal Reflex. The medial edge of your big toe is the cranium, the proximal phalange (base of your toe) is the cervical vertebrae. Starting at the ball of the foot and going halfway along the arch, this portion of the medial edge represents the reflexes for the Thoracic vertebrae, while the remaining half of the arch along this edge represents the Lumbar vertebrae. The Sacrum and Coccyx reflexes are found on the medial edge that runs long the sole of the foot.
Take your thumb and "thumb walk" along this edge, stimulating the spinal reflexes. Without being able to show you, the best description I can give in writing, is that you pretend your thumb is an inch worm. Push into a reflex spot, hold, then push into the one directly in line above it. When you get to the top of your big toe, apply a firm and gentle pressure, and slide your thumb back down to the bottom of your foot. Stimulate your spinal reflex points three times like this.
I like the number three in any type of hands-on healing. The first stroke or manipulation serves to alert the recipient to your touch (or change of touch), allows you to perfect your rhythm, and begins the process of opening up the blockages. The second manipulation is better received (especially if the area is tender) and the recipient relaxes into it because they know what to expect. The third allows the blockage to be released and is the most relaxing stroke of the sequence. I find that using a bodywork technique more than three times in a row ceases to be relaxing and becomes irritating instead. Now this is not always the case, but it's a good guideline for giving reflexology or massage to someone. You'll know, based on your recipient's reactions.
